Road traffic accidents claimed 11 lives in December
According to preliminary data of Statistics Finland, 216 accidents involving personal injury happened in road traffic in December. In them, 11 persons were killed and 272 persons injured. The number of persons killed was three higher and that of persons injured 53 lower than in December 2020. The data were compared with the previous year's preliminary data.

Of the persons who were killed, nine travelled by passenger car. Pedestrians killed in road traffic accidents numbered one. In addition, one other road user was killed. Among those who died, all were men.
A total of 3,202 road traffic accidents involving personal injury happened in January to December period. In them, 219 persons were killed and 3,839 persons injured. The number of persons killed was four lower and that of persons injured 572 lower than in the corresponding period of 2020. Of the persons who were killed, 124 travelled by passenger car, eight by van, four by moped, 28 by motorcycle and three by lorry. Pedestrians killed numbered 24 and cyclists 22. In addition, six other road users were killed.
