Industrial output grew in April year-on–year but decreased from the previous month

Seasonally adjusted industrial output (TOL BCD) declined by 1.7 per cent in April from the month before. According to Statistics Finland, output of industries adjusted for working days was 3.9 per cent higher in April 2018 than in April 2017. During January to April, working day adjusted output went up by 5.1 per cent from the year before.

Seasonally adjusted output declined by 1.7 per cent in April from the month before. In March, seasonally adjusted output went up by 2.2 per cent from February.

Among the main industries, seasonally adjusted industrial output decreased in April most, or by 10.9 per cent, in electricity production. In the metal industry, seasonally adjusted output was 1.7 per cent lower than in April than in March. Mining and quarrying grew by 2.3 per cent compared with March.

Revised data for April 2018 will be published at 9 am on 10 July 2018 in connection with the release of industrial output data for May 2018. The revision is influenced by the estimation used in the latest release, which concerns the periodic tax return data used for enterprises with fewer than 50 employees. Because of the method used, seasonally adjusted figures for previous months may change even if the original figures do not become revised. The seasonally adjusted figures will also be adjusted for working days.
