Environmental protection expenditure in industry EUR 850 in 2014

In 2014, industry invested EUR 266 million in environmental protection. The operating expenditure of environmental protection amounted to EUR 586 million. Of environmental investments, 44 per cent were directed to air protection and 31 per cent to water protection. Most environmental investments were made by energy supply, the chemical industry and the metal industry.

Environmental protection investments by target in 2014

Of all environmental investments in industry, EUR 118 million was directed to air protection. This sum includes investments for controlling various air emissions. However, excluded from the statistics are part of the measures that affect the reduction of greenhouse gases, as the statistics do not cover energy saving measures. EUR 81 million was invested in water protection and EUR 59 million in waste management and soil and groundwater protection.

Environmental protection expenditure in industry are comprised of investments and operating expenditure. Operating expenditure is operating and maintenance expenditure and other operating expenditure such as administration and research costs. Of operating and maintenance expenditure, 41 per cent was allocated to water protection, 35 per cent to waste management and soil protection and 24 per cent to air protection.
