Stock of central government guarantees EUR 18.8 billion at the end of September 2009
The stock of central government guarantees stood at EUR 18.8 billion at the end of September 2009. During the third quarter new central government guarantees were granted to the amount of EUR 1.9 billion. The stock of guarantees grew by 8 per cent from the end of the previous quarter and by 32 per cent from the corresponding quarter of the year before. Central government guarantees include all guarantees for which the state is ultimately liable.
At the end of September, 51 per cent of the stock of central government guarantees consisted of guarantees to enterprises. Guarantees granted to housing corporations made up 23 per cent and those to households 16 per cent of the guarantee stock. The remaining 10 per cent of the stock of central government guarantees was divided among public sector entities, insurance and financial corporations, and foreign countries.
