Appointments at Statistics Finland

Statistics Finland has appointed a Deputy Director General, a Director of IT Management, and Directors of the Population and Social Statistics, Business Statistics, and Economic and Environmental Statistics Departments. These positions became vacant due to retirement and job changes.

Ms Heli Mikkelä (Master of Science, Agriculture and Forestry, and Master of Social Sciences) has been appointed Deputy Director General for the five-year term starting on1 November 2015. Ms Mikkelä has previously held the position of Director of Information Services at Statistics Finland.

Mr Harri Lehtinen (Master of Social Sciences) has been appointed Director of IT Management for the five-year term starting on 1 June 2015. Mr Lehtinen has previously held the position of IT Development Manger at Statistics Finland.

Mr Jari Tarkoma (Master of Arts, Master of Laws) has been appointed Director of the Population and Social Statistics Department for the five-year term starting on 1 October 2015. Most recently, Mr Tarkoma has held the position of Director of the Data Collection Department at Statistics Finland. Mr Ville Vertanen (Master of Arts) has been appointed Director of the Economic and Environmental Statistics Department for the five-year term starting on 1 August 2015. Ms Mari Ylä-Jarkko (Master of Social Sciences) has been appointed Director of the Business Statistics Department for the five-year term starting on 1 October 2015. Mr Vertanen and Ms Ylä-Jarkko have previously worked as Heads of Statistics of the Economic and Environmental Statistics Department.

Statistics on Finland for 150 years

Statistics Finland produces the vast majority of the Official Statistics of Finland and is an important international actor in the field of statistics. Its task is to combine collected data into statistics and information services for the needs of decision-making and citizens. Statistics Finland employs around 900 experts in various fields in Helsinki and as interviewers all over Finland. In 2015, it has been 150 years since Statistics Finland was established.
