Finland's preliminary population figure was 5,553,955 at the end of July 2022
According to Statistics Finland's preliminary data, Finland's population was 5,553,955 at the end of July. Our country's population increased by 5,714 persons during January-July. The reason for the increase was migration gain from abroad, since immigration exceeded emigration by 13,913. The number of births was 9,699 lower than that of deaths.

During January-July, 26,226 children were born, which is 2,743 fewer than in the corresponding period in 2021. The number of deaths was 35,925, which is 3,544 higher than one year earlier.
According to the preliminary statistics for January-July, 20,522 persons immigrated to Finland from abroad and 6,609 persons emigrated from Finland. The number of immigrants was 920 higher and the number of emigrants 71 higher than in the corresponding period of the previous year. In all, 4,338 of the immigrants and 4,118 of the emigrants were Finnish citizens.
According to the preliminary data, the number of inter-municipal migrations totalled 154,980 during January-July. Compared with the corresponding period in 2021, the decrease was 8,128 migrations according to the municipal division of 2022.
