Exports grew more slowly than imports in the second quarter of 2022

Service exports grew by 18 per cent in the second quarter of 2022 compared with the corresponding quarter one year previously. Service imports grew by 36 per cent over the same period. In the second quarter of 2022, the value of service exports was EUR 7.5 billion and that of service imports EUR 9.7 billion. The data appear from Statistics Finland's statistics on international trade in goods and services, which are part of balance of payments.

  • Exports grew by EUR 6.9 billion (30 %) from the second quarter of the year before.
  • Imports increased by EUR 9.5 billion (41 %) from the second quarter of the year before.
  • Imports of services grew by EUR 2.6 billion (36 %) from one year ago, which was considerably more than the growth of EUR 1.2 billion (18 %) in exports of services.
  • Imports of travel have almost returned to the level prior to the corona pandemic.
  • The exceptionally big difference between imports and exports of services is mainly explained by the fact that exports of travel were only 60 per cent of the pre-pandemic level and that exports of transport services have not mirrored the strong growth in imports of transport services.
