Growth in international trade continued measured in euros in the third quarter of 2022

release

Measured in euros, service exports grew by 18 per cent in the third quarter of 2022 compared to the corresponding quarter of the previous year. Service imports grew by 30 per cent measured in euros. According to Statistics Finland, the value of service exports in the third quarter was EUR 7.9 billion and that of service imports EUR 9.8 billion.

Change

Revisions to the data for 2021 and 2020 exceptionally in connection with the December release. The change affects goods exports.

Key selections

  • Exports grew by EUR 5.5 billion (22 %) compared with the third quarter of the previous year, while imports grew by EUR 7.7 billion (31 %) compared with the same period. 
  • Exports of services were EUR 1.2 billion (18 %) and imports of services were EUR 2.3 billion (30 %) higher than one year ago.
  • The growth in service trade is particularly explained by the continued recovery of transport and travel services from the pandemic. Goods trade turned to a decline from the previous quarter.
  • The item Factoryless goods production, goods sent abroad for processing and merchanting of goods exports tripled from the previous year and its significance to international trade is growing.
