Road traffic accidents claimed 17 lives in October 2023

According to preliminary data of Statistics Finland, 257 accidents involving personal injury happened in road traffic in October 2023. In them, 17 persons were killed and 323 persons injured. The number of persons killed was six higher and that of persons injured 51 higher than in October 2022. The data were compared with the previous year's preliminary data.

Road traffic accidents in January to October

A total of 2,460 road traffic accidents involving personal injury happened in January to October period of 2023. In them, 151 persons were killed and 3,035 persons injured. The number of persons killed was five lower and that of persons injured 155 lower than in the corresponding period of 2022. Of the persons who were killed, 74 travelled by passenger car, 12 by van, one by moped, 19 by motorcycle and one by lorry. Pedestrians killed numbered 19 and cyclists 15. In addition, 10 other road users were killed.
