Turnover in trade fell by 1.8 per cent in August 2023

Growth in motor vehicle trade continued in August 

Among the main industries of trade, turnover grew strongest in motor vehicle trade, where working day adjusted turnover grew by 12.1 per cent and sales volume by 8.7 per cent in August from one year back.

Working day adjusted turnover in the trade industry with the biggest turnover, wholesale trade, decreased in August by 7.3 per cent, and sales volume by 3.2 per cent year-on-year. 

In retail trade, working day adjusted turnover grew by 1.8 per cent in August but sales volume decreased by 2.1 per cent. The turnover of daily consumer goods trade increased by 4.8 per cent from one year back, while the volume of sales fell by 0.8 per cent in the corresponding period. Turnover in department store trade grew by 4.8 per cent but sales volume decreased by 0.8 per cent from one year back. In specialised store trade, turnover declined by 2.9 per cent and the volume of sales by 5.3 per cent.

Seasonally adjusted turnover grew compared to July

Seasonally adjusted turnover in total trade grew by 0.9 per cent in August compared to July. Seasonally adjusted sales volume went up by 0.1 per cent. In July, seasonally adjusted turnover grew by 0.3 per cent and sales volume did not change from the month before.
