Year-on-year change in preliminary harmonised index of consumer prices 3.4 per cent in August 2023

In July, the year-on-year change in the Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices stood at 4.2 per cent. Adjustment of the price index of electricity was made in the preliminary data of the Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices for August.

- According to the preliminary data on the Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices, the month-on-month change was -0.9 per cent in August.
- In August, the biggest year-on-year change (7.1 per cent) was in the division 01 food and non-alcoholic beverages.
- Preliminary data become specified after the statistical month, when the data collection is completed at the end of the month.
Differences in the Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices and Consumer Price Index
The Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices (HICP) does not include owner-occupancy, games of chance, interests on consumption and other credits, fire insurance on owner-occupied dwellings, the vehicle tax or fishing and hunting fees. The consumption items included in the Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices, as well as the rules governing its compilation, have been defined in EU regulations.
