According to Statistics Finland, 1.89 million persons owned mutual funds or listed shares at the end of 2022. Altogether 34.7 per cent of the household-dwelling population were owners. The number of owners grew by 2.1 per cent (around 39,500 persons) from 2021.

Key selections

• Altogether 34.7 per cent of the persons in the household-dwelling population owned listed shares, mutual funds or both at the end of 2022. The share has increased by about five percentage points from 2019.

• The median value of the holdings of those owning of mutual funds, listed shares or both was EUR 5,400 at the end of 2022. Compared with 2021, the median fell by nearly one fifth (19.2%) in real terms.

• Mutual funds were owned by 27.8 per cent of the dwelling population at the end of 2022. The share was almost the same for both men and women.

• In all, 16.2 per cent of the dwelling population owned listed shares at the end of 2022. The share was higher for men (19.5%) than for women (12.1%).
