According to Statistics Finland, there were 1,464,768 families in Finland at the end of 2022. The number of families fell by 1,210, while in the previous year it went down by 1,675 families. While in 1992 the commonest family type was a married couple with children, in 2022 the commonest family type was a married couple without children. The number of families with a married couple and children has been falling steadily. Correspondingly, the numbers of families of cohabiting couples without children and those of cohabiting couples with children have both grown.
