Number of trips by train in passenger traffic increased by 23 per cent in the fourth quarter of 2022
According to Statistics Finland, freight transferred by rail in the fourth quarter of 2022 was 8.1 million tons, which was 21 % less than in the fourth quarter of 2021. A total of 21 million trips was travelled by rail, which was 23 % more than in the same quarter of 2021.

Passenger transport in public holidays not on pre-Covid level
The busiest quarter in terms of travel by railway was far from the years preceding the coronavirus. In the last quarter of 2022, the number of trips, 21 million, fell around four million short of the 25.1 million trips made in the last quarter of 2019.
In 2022, a total of 76.1 million trips were made, which was 38 per cent more than in 2021.
Quiet in freight transport
The low level of the volume recorded in the previous quarter continues. The number of transported tonnes was 8.1 million tonnes and 21 per cent lower than in the previous quarter in 2021.
A total of 31.4 million tonnes were transported in 2022, which is 22 per cent lower than in 2021.
