Value of exports of goods and services continued growing in the first quarter of 2023

Contrary to what was previously stated in the change release, exports and imports for the first quarter of 2023 were not updated in connection with the August release. The data for the first quarter were and are in accordance with the June release.

The data on international trade in goods and services released on 20 June 2023 include an exceptional revision related to the value of exports of goods and services and the value of imports of services in 2022. Exports of goods were revised upward by EUR 1.1 billion, exports of services by EUR 0.7 billion and imports of services by EUR 0.7 billion.
Read more about the changeAccording to Statistics Finland, the value of exports of services grew by six per cent in the first quarter of 2023 compared to the corresponding quarter of the year before. The value of service imports grew by 19 per cent over the same period. The value of exports of services was EUR 7.7 billion and that of imports EUR 10.0 billion in the first quarter of 2023.

- Exports of goods and services grew by EUR 1.6 billion (6%) in the first quarter of 2023.
- The value of imports of goods and services remained unchanged. For the first time since the beginning of the corona pandemic, total imports did not increase.
- As regards imports, the development of the value of goods and services diverged strongly. The value of imports of goods decreased by EUR 1.6 billion while the value of imports of services rose by EUR 1.6 billion compared with the corresponding quarter last year.
- In connection with this publication, data for 2022 were also published in the database table International trade in services by region and service item, annually. In annual data, international trade in services is described in more detail than quarterly data both by service item and region.
