Exports and imports of services fell moderately in the third quarter of 2023

According to Statistics Finland, the value of exports of services decreased by one per cent in the third quarter of 2023 from one year ago. The value of service imports fell by two per cent over the same period. The value of service exports was EUR 8.1 billion and that of imports EUR 9.7 billion in the third quarter of 2023.

Key selections

  • The value of international trade continued declining from the exceptionally high figures of the previous year. The value of goods and service exports decreased by EUR 3.6 billion (-12%) in the third quarter of 2023 compared to one year ago.
  • The value of goods and service imports fell more than that of exports, by EUR 5.1 billion (-16%).
  • The value of goods exports went down by EUR 3.5 billion and the value of goods imports by EUR 4.9 billion. The value of goods exports was EUR 1.4 billion higher than that of imports.
  • The fallen prices of goods from the top figures of the previous year decreased the value of international trade. Data on the volume of international trade can be found in the statistics on quarterly national accounts.
  • The service account strengthened in the third quarter but was still EUR 1.6 billion negative. Thus, imports of services in Finland were still higher than exports of services. The service account was strengthened particularly by a growth in ICT services and a drop in imports of transport services.
