Road traffic accidents claimed 15 lives in December 2023

According to Statistics Finland's preliminary data, 199 accidents involving personal injury happened in road traffic in December 2023. In them, 15 persons were killed and 276 persons injured. The number of fatalities was five higher and number of persons injured 37 lower than in December 2022. The data were compared with the previous year's preliminary data.

Road traffic accidents in January to December

A total of 2,903 road traffic accidents involving personal injury happened in the January to December period of 2023 according to preliminary data. In them, 173 persons were killed and 3,606 persons injured. The number of deaths was 23 lower and number of persons injured 232 lower than in the corresponding period of 2022. Of the persons who were killed, 90 travelled by passenger car, 12 by van, one by moped, 20 by motorcycle and one by lorry. Pedestrians killed numbered 21 and cyclists 16. In addition, 12 other road users were killed, four of whom were on snowmobiles and seven on quad tractors.
