Over one million household-dwelling units lived in rented dwellings in 2023
According to Statistics Finland, there were 1.02 million household-dwelling units living in rented dwellings at the end of 2023. The share was 36 per cent of all household-dwelling units, which was six percentage points more than in 2010. A total of 1.74 million household-dwelling units were living in owner-occupied dwellings, which was 61 per cent of all household-dwelling units.

- At the end of 2023, altogether three per cent of all household-dwelling units lived in dwellings with other tenure status, such as right of occupancy dwellings.
- The dwelling population living in owner-occupied dwellings amounted to 3.75 million. The dwelling population comprises persons who reside permanently in actual dwellings. Persons who are permanently institutionalised or living in residential homes are not included.
- The number of dwelling population living in rented dwellings was 1.58 million.
- Of people living alone, 51 per cent lived in rented dwellings and 46 per cent in owner-occupied dwellings.
- Eighty-two per cent of household-dwelling units of persons aged under 30 lived in rented dwellings.
