Enterprises received more orders in December than twelve months ago in the metal industry, where the value of new orders was 8.4 per cent higher than twelve months earlier. Orders decreased in December by 7.6 per cent in the manufacture of paper, and paper and paper board products and by 23.4 per cent in the chemical industry from one year back.

When interpreting these statistics, it should be borne in mind that they typically show strong fluctuations by month. Even new orders of substantial value are not examined over extended time periods but for the statistical reference month only.

Changes in the course of 2023

The value of new orders received by enterprises during 2023 was 10.9 per cent lower than in 2022. During 2023, orders decreased from the previous year in all the examined main industries of manufacturing. Orders decreased most in the chemical industry where the value of orders was 17.2 per cent lower than in the year before. In the industry of the manufacture of paper, and paper and board products, orders declined by 10.5 per cent and in the metal industry by 9.6 per cent from one year ago.
