New orders in manufacturing grew by 0.3 per cent year-on-year in June 2024

Changes in the examined main industries in June

Enterprises received more orders in June 2024 than twelve months ago in the chemical industry and in the manufacture of paper and paper board products. New orders grew most in the chemical industry, where the value of orders was 6.8 per cent higher than in the year before. In the manufacture of paper and paper board products, the value of new orders was 3.4 per cent higher than one year earlier. New orders in the metal industry declined by 1.4 per cent year-on-year in June.

When interpreting these statistics, it should be borne in mind that they typically show strong fluctuations by month. Even new orders of substantial value are not examined over extended time periods but for the statistical reference month only.

Changes during the early part of 2024

The value of new orders received by enterprises during January to June 2024 was 7.1 per cent lower than one year earlier. New orders declined in all the examined main industries in the early part of the year. In the first half of the year, orders decreased most in the metal industry, where the value of orders was 8.7 per cent lower than in the year before. Orders decreased by 4.1 per cent in the chemical industry and by 3.3 per cent in the manufacture of paper and paper board products in the early part of the year from one year back.
