Relative increase in establishments was highest in the field of energy in 2023

According to Statistics Finland, there were 615,780 establishments operating in Finland in 2023 and 1.5 million staff-years were worked in them. In 2023, the number of establishments increased by 1.5 per cent compared to 2022. In relative terms, the number of establishments increased most (10.9 %) in the field of energy, that is, in electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply (TOL D).

  • The combined turnover of establishments was EUR 528 billion in 2023.
  • The combined gross value of output of establishments measures the actual production of the establishment, and in 2023 it contracted by 2.4 per cent from the previous year.
  • After excluding operating expenses from the combined gross value of output of establishments, the value added of output of establishments was in total 2.5 per cent lower than in 2022.
  • The combined turnover of establishments grew in four regions: Southwest Finland, Pirkanmaa, Kanta-Häme and Satakunta.
