Volume of transport in domestic waterborne traffic decreased by 13 per cent in June 2024
According to Statistics Finland’s preliminary data, the total volume of goods transported in domestic waterborne traffic was 0.4 million tonnes in June 2024. Transport in domestic waterborne traffic decreased by 13 per cent compared to June 2023. In June 2024, domestic water transport took place almost only in coastal waterways.

- In June 2024, oil products and timber were transported most in domestic waterborne traffic.
- The fall in the volume of transport was mostly caused by decreased transport of coal and coke.
- In terms of timber transport, preliminary data are supplemented at the end of the statistical reference year, which will have an effect especially on the transport volumes of inland waters.
- No transport was registered through the Saimaa Canal in June.
Oil products were transported most in domestic waterborne traffic in June
Oil products were transported most, in total 161,753 million, which was 45 per cent of all transport. Timber was transported next most, 124,718 tonnes, making up 35 per cent of all transport. Preliminary data on timber transport are supplemented at the end of the statistical reference year.
