Number of leisure trips abroad grew almost by one fifth in February 2024

According to Statistics Finland, a total of 0.5 million leisure trips abroad were made in February 2024, when trips with overnight stay in the destination country, cruises and same-day trips are included. The number of domestic leisure trips with overnight stay was 1.3 million, which is more or less the same as in February 2023.

Key selections

  • The number of leisure trips abroad with overnight stay in the destination country was around 0.4 million, which is one quarter more than one year earlier. One in four of the trips were package tours.
  • Around 1.5 million domestic trips with overnight stay were made in February 2024. Of the trips, 1.3 million were leisure trips and 0.2 million business trips.
  • The number of domestic leisure trips with paid accommodation fell by 10 per cent and trips with free accommodation grew by eight per cent from the previous year.
  • The number of recorded overnight stays during leisure trips in Finland was around 4.6 million and abroad 3.5 million in February 2024.
