Leisure trips in Finland and abroad increased in March 2024

According to Statistics Finland, around 0.6 million leisure trips abroad were made in March 2024, which is a quarter more than in the corresponding period last year. The number of domestic leisure trips with overnight stay grew by a fifth and was around 1.8 million in March 2024.

Key selections

  • The growth in leisure trips abroad in March 2024 was due to an increase in trips with overnight stay in the destination country. One in four of these trips were package tours.
  • The number of domestic leisure trips with paid accommodation fell by 11 per cent and trips with free accommodation grew by nearly 40 per cent from the previous year.
  • The number of recorded overnight stays during leisure trips in Finland was around 5.5 million and abroad 6.2 million.
  • Around 0.2 million domestic business trips with overnight stay were recorded in the statistics, which is nearly one half lower than in March 2023.
