Travel in Finland and abroad both increased in spring 2024

According to Statistics Finland, both the number of leisure trips abroad and the number of domestic leisure trips with overnight stay increased by around one tenth in spring 2024. Leisure trips abroad numbered 2.0 million and domestic leisure trips with overnight stay 6.3 million. The number of overnight stays related to the trips also grew abroad and in Finland.

Key selections

  • In spring 2024 (January to April), the total number of trips with overnight stay was 9.0 million, inclusive of leisure trips and business trips in Finland and abroad.
  • More trips were made to the most popular destination countries Estonia, Sweden and Spain than in spring 2023.
  • The number of domestic leisure trips with paid accommodation fell by one tenth and that of trips with free accommodation grew by one fifth.
  • The popularity of trips to free-time residences increased and more trips were also made to relatives and friends than in the year before.
  • The number of business trips with overnight stay decreased both in Finland and abroad.
