Domestic trips with free accommodation increased by one third in May 2024

According to Statistics Finland, around 1.9 million domestic leisure trips with overnight stay were made in May 2024, which is one fifth more than one year earlier. The increase in number of trips was due to a growth in trips with free accommodation. The number of leisure trips abroad also grew slightly from the previous year and was around 0.6 million in May 2024.

  • Altogether 0.5 million leisure trips abroad with overnight stay in the destination country were made, which is slightly more than one year earlier. One in four of these trips were package tours.
  • Altogether 5.2 million overnight stays during leisure trips were recorded in Finland and 4.6 million abroad.
  • Around 0.2 million domestic business trips with overnight stay were made, which is one third fewer than in May 2023.
