The Value of household production fell in 2022

According to the calculations of Statistics Finland, the gross value added of household production was EUR 76.5 billion in Finland in 2022. Gross domestic product was EUR 266.1 billion in the corresponding period. According to these calculations, the gross value added of household production excluded from GDP as a ratio to GDP was 19.9 per cent.

The stacked bar chart shows the values for household production outside the GDP, household production included in the GDP, and GDP related to other than household production for the years 2009, 2012, 2016-2020, and 2022. In previous years, the share of household production outside GDP has been almost a third, but in 2022 it is only a fifth.

Key selections

  • The share of household production in GDP was EUR 23.5 billion and the gross value added of household production excluded from GDP (so-called non-SNA) was EUR 53.1 billion.
  • The share of household production excluded from the national accounts corresponded to 19.9 per cent of GDP in 2022. In previous calculations, the corresponding share has been around 33 to 35 per cent.
  • According to the Time Use Survey, the time used for domestic work has decreased, but a considerable part of the decrease visible in these calculations is caused by data challenges.
  • The Value of household production statistics will be discontinued. This is the final release of the statistics.
