According to Statistics Finland’s register of providers of education and register of educational institutions, there were 682 active providers of education and 3,142 educational institutions at the end of 2023. There were 2,014 active comprehensive schools.

Key selections

  • One-quarter of comprehensive schools were joint schools.
  • Forty-six per cent of comprehensive school pupils studied at joint schools.
  • A total of 28 comprehensive schools were closed down or merged with another educational institution.
  • Comprehensive schools were closed down or merged with another educational institution most in the region of Southwest Finland.
  • Altogether 116 educational institutions of basic arts education and 60 music schools were added to the register of educational institutions.
