Turnover of construction decreased by 1.6 per cent in May 2024 from one year ago

According to Statistics Finland, the working day adjusted turnover of construction enterprises decreased by 1.6 per cent in May 2024 compared to the previous year. The volume of sales, from which the impact of price changes has been eliminated, went down by 0.6 per cent. The decline in construction was most affected by the weak development of turnover and sales volume in building construction. The growth in civil engineering was exceptional, which softened the decline in construction.

Turnover in construction industries developed in two directions

In May 2024, working day adjusted turnover in construction of buildings fell by 11.3 per cent and sales volume by 9.0 per cent compared to one year ago. In turn, working day adjusted turnover in civil engineering increased by 37.9 per cent and sales volume by 36.4 per cent from the previous year. The growth in civil engineering was exceptional and may become revised in the next release. Turnover in specialised construction activities decreased by 6.1 per cent and sales volume went down by 3.7 per cent from one year ago.

Seasonally adjusted turnover in construction increased compared to April

Seasonally adjusted turnover in construction increased by 2.1 per cent in May 2024 compared to April. Seasonally adjusted sales volume also went up by 2.1 per cent from April.
