According to Statistics Finland, 1,776,000 students took part in liberal adult education in 2024. Because many participated in more than one education during the year, the individual students who took part in education numbered 931,000 (net number). The number of lessons totalled 2,786,000 hours, of which a clear majority were given at adult education centres.

Key selections

  • Altogether 112,000 trainings were organised, 75 per cent of which at adult education centres in 2024.
  • Most lessons were given at adult education centres, in total 1,933,000 hours.
  • The number of underage participants was 157,000, which was 17 per cent of all students attending liberal adult education (net number).
  • Measured by the number of students, the most popular study contents were sports, civic and organisational activity and visual arts.
  • Seventy-one per cent of the students were women and girls.
