Number of domestic leisure trips grew by good one tenth in 2024

release | Finnish travel 2024According to Statistics Finland, around 24.0 million domestic leisure trips with overnight stay were made in 2024, which is good one tenth more than in 2023. The number of leisure trips abroad with overnight stay remained on level with the previous year and was around 6.2 million in 2024. The number of business trips both in Finland and abroad decreased from the year before.

- In 2024, the total number of trips with overnight stay was 33.3 million, including leisure and business trips in Finland and abroad.
- The number of domestic leisure trips with free accommodation grew by nearly one fifth to 17.5 million in 2024. The number of domestic leisure trips with paid overnight stay was 6.6 million, which is unchanged from the year before.
- The average duration of leisure trips abroad with overnight stay was nine nights. One in five of these trips were package tours.
- The number of business trips with overnight stay in Finland and abroad was 3.1 million. The number of business trips went down by one fifth in Finland and by one tenth abroad.
- Around 85 per cent of the population made at least one leisure trip with overnight stay during 2024.
