Leisure trips in Finland and abroad decreased in spring 2025

According to Statistics Finland, around 5.0 million domestic leisure trips with overnight stay were made in January to April 2025, which is one fifth fewer than in the corresponding period of the year before. The number of leisure trips abroad with overnight stay decreased by close on one tenth and was around 1.6 million in spring 2025.

Key selections

  • In spring 2025 (January to April), the total number of trips with overnight stay was 7.6 million, inclusive of leisure trips and business trips in Finland and abroad.
  • Fewer trips were made to the most popular destination countries Sweden, Estonia and Spain than in spring 2024. Especially the number of day trips and cruises went down from the previous spring.
  • The number of domestic leisure trips with free accommodation was 3.4 million, which is one fourth fewer than in spring of the previous year. The number of trips with paid accommodation also decreased compared to the previous spring.
  • The decrease in the number of trips with free accommodation was visible as a decline in the number of overnight stays at free-time residences and with friends and relatives.
  • There was no significant change in the number of business trips in Finland and abroad with overnight stay compared to the previous spring.
