Road traffic accidents claimed 18 lives in August 2025
According to Statistics Finland's preliminary data, 268 accidents involving personal injury happened in road traffic in August 2025. In them, 18 persons were killed and 317 persons injured. The number of fatalities was two higher and the number of persons injured 50 lower than in August 2024. The data were compared with the previous year's preliminary data.

Road traffic accidents in January to August
According to preliminary data, there were a total of 1,641 road traffic accidents involving personal injury in the January to August period of 2025. In them, 118 persons were killed and 1,997 persons injured. The number of deaths was eight higher and the number of persons injured 151 lower than in the corresponding period of 2024. Of the persons who were killed, 69 travelled by passenger car, six by van, one by moped, 14 by motorcycle and two by lorry. Ten pedestrians and two riders of a light electric vehicles were killed. Nine cyclists on a traditional bicycle and one cyclist on an electric bicycle were killed. In addition, four other road users were killed.
