Number of adoptions rose slightly in 2024 from the previous year

release | Adoptions 2024According to Statistics Finland, there were 283 adoptions in Finland in 2024. Although there were slightly more adoptions than in the previous year, the number of adoptions has fallen by 42 per cent from 2010. Of all adoptions, 147 or 52 per cent were adoptions of persons aged under 18.

- In 2024, there were 283 adoptions, which was slightly more than in the year before.
- The number of adoptions has fallen clearly from the turn of the 2010s. The fall is especially explained by the decline in international adoptions and inter-family adoptions.
- Adoptions of minors have decreased from the early 2010s. In 2024, nearly one-half (48%) of the adoptions were adoptions where an adult person received an adoptive parent or parents.
- Fifty-five per cent of the adoptions of underage children were adoptions of children born in Finland and 45 per cent adoptions of children born abroad.
- Of the adoptions, 202 were adoptions by one parent and 81 were adoptions by two parents.
