According to Statistics Finland’s preliminary data, the total volume of goods transported in domestic coastal waterborne traffic was 0.8 million tonnes in the first quarter of 2025. Transports decreased by 7 per cent compared to the first quarter of 2024. Domestic water transport took place almost only in coastal waterways.

- In the first quarter of 2025, oil products and coal and coke were transported most in domestic waterborne traffic.
- The supplementing of the preliminary data of the statistics for 2024 concerning transport of timber in inland waterways will be exceptionally postponed to the remainder of 2025.
Oil products were transported most in domestic waterborne traffic in the first quarter of 2025
Oil products were transported most, in total 441,675 tonnes, which was 51 per cent of all transport. Timber was transported next most, 117,828 tonnes, making up 14 per cent of all transport. Preliminary data on timber transport are supplemented at the end of the statistical reference year.
