Volume of transport in domestic coastal waterborne traffic decreased by 4 per cent year-on-year in the third quarter of 2025

According to Statistics Finland’s preliminary data, the total volume of goods transported in domestic coastal waterborne traffic was 0.8 million tonnes in the third quarter of 2025. Transports decreased by 4 per cent compared to the third quarter of 2024. Domestic water transport took place almost only in coastal waterways.

  • In the third quarter of 2025, oil products and crude minerals and cement were transported most in domestic waterborne traffic.
  • In terms of timber transport, preliminary data are supplemented later, which will have an effect especially on the transport volumes of inland waters.
  • No transport was registered through the Saimaa Canal in the third quarter.

Oil products were transported most in domestic waterborne traffic in the third quarter of 2025

Oil products were transported most, in total 516,807 tonnes, which was 59 per cent of all transport. Crude minerals and cement was transported next most, 118,469 tonnes, making up 14 per cent of all transport.
