Number of passengers in domestic waterborne traffic grew by 1.3 per cent in 2024

According to Statistics Finland, a total of 5.0 million passengers travelled in domestic waterborne traffic in 2024. The number of passengers grew by 1.3 per cent compared to 2023. The majority of the passengers travelled on the coast and most in the area of the Gulf of Finland.

Passenger traffic grew slightly in 2024
In 2024, a total of 5.0 million passengers were transported in domestic waterborne traffic, which is 1.3 per cent more than in 2023. Of the passengers, 4.7 million travelled in coastal areas and 0.3 million in inland waterways. Compared to 2023, the number of passengers in coastal areas increased by 1.5 per cent and in inland waterways the number fell by 0.9 per cent. The traffic recorded in the statistics includes both cruises and liner and ferry traffic.
The number of passengers was highest in the area of the Gulf of Finland, 3.5 million, and the passenger traffic performance was highest between Mainland Finland and Åland, 71 million passenger-kilometres.
