Finland's regular merchant fleet decreased in 2024

According to Statistics Finland, there were 1,095 vessels in the Finnish registered merchant fleet at the end of 2024, of which 624 belonged to the regular merchant fleet. The number of vessels and combined gross tonnage of both the entire registered merchant fleet and the regular merchant fleet decreased compared to the situation at the end of 2023.

  • At the end of 2024, the gross tonnage of the entire registered merchant fleet had decreased by seven per cent and the number of vessels by 164 vessels compared to the situation at the end of 2023.
  • The gross tonnage of the regular merchant fleet went down by eight per cent and there were 58 vessels fewer than at the end of 2023.
  • Starting from October 2024, a registration fee was imposed on vessels in the register.
  • The average age of the regular merchant fleet was 49 years at the end of 2024. The average age decreased by nearly four years.
