Read more about the changeAccording to Statistics Finland, domestic extraction of natural resources and material consumption decreased in 2024 compared to the previous year. A total of 213.3 million tonnes of domestic natural resources, or domestic extraction, were utilised in 2024. Material consumption, which takes material imports and exports into account, totalled 218.3 million tonnes in 2024, which is around 2 per cent less than in 2023.

- In relative terms, the biggest change concerned fossil energy materials, the domestic extraction of which decreased by 22.6 per cent from the previous year.
- In absolute numbers, the domestic extraction of metal ores fell most from the previous year.
- In 2024, a total of 45.8 million tonnes of raw materials and processed products were imported to Finland. Total material exports amounted to 40.8 million tonnes.
- Domestic material consumption decreased by 4.6 million tonnes in 2024 from the year before.
