Energy use in manufacturing decreased by 1 per cent in 2024

According to Statistics Finland's data, energy use in manufacturing amounted to 452 petajoule (PJ) in 2024, which was 0.8 per cent less than in the previous year. The volume of electricity purchased by manufacturing decreased by 2.8 per cent from the previous year. The use of acquired heat grew by one per cent.

  • In year 2024 industrial energy use decreased by 0.8 per cent compared to the previous year.
  • The share of wood fuels in total energy use was 41 per cent, which corresponded to the level of 2022 and 2023.
  • The consumption of fossil fuels and peat decreased by 6.5 per cent. The fall was most significant in the consumption of oil, 12 per cent.
  • The consumption of purchased electricity grew by 2.8 per cent and was 22 per cent of total consumption.
