Final energy consumption continued falling in 2023

According to Statistics Finland, final consumption of energy products used by Finns in Finland and abroad decreased by three per cent in 2023 from the previous year. Energy consumption totalled 1.12 million terajoules. Energy use decreased by six per cent in manufacturing, by two per cent in households and by one per cent in service industries from the previous year.

  • Energy use in construction fell by 12 per cent from the previous year. Consumption increased by two per cent in the industry of transportation and storage. Energy consumption in agriculture and forestry remained on level with 2022.
  • Production of energy with nuclear power grew by 35 per cent, that with hydro power by 13 per cent and with wind power by 25 per cent.
