Highest number of free-time residences in Kuopio in 2024

According to Statistics Finland, Kuopio had the highest number of free-time residences, 10,355, at the end of 2024. Mikkeli had the second highest number of free-time residences, 9,825. In 2020 to 2024, the highest numbers of free-time residences were built in Kittilä.

  • There were altogether 495,145 free-time residences at the end of 2024.
  • The total number of free-time residences fell below half a million.
  • The decrease in the number of free-time residences is explained not only by demolitions but also by corrections to the register, removals from the register and changes in the intended use.
  • In 2020 to 2024, altogether 11,138 free-time residences were built in Finland.

The number of free-time residences describes buildings belonging to building category 02 (Free-time residential buildings).

Starting from the statistical reference year 2025, the statistics on buildings and free-time residences and the statistics on building and dwelling production will be combined into the new statistics on building stock and new production. The first publication of the new set of statistics will be data on new production for January to March 2025.
