A total of 2 million passengers flew through Finnish airports in December 2024

According to Statistics Finland, altogether two million passengers flew through Finnish airports in December 2024. The total number of passengers increased by 9 per cent compared to December 2023. The number of passengers on international flights increased by 11 per cent and on domestic flights by 3 per cent from the previous year.

Air traffic was lively in December especially at Lapland airports

In December 2024, a total of 1.3 million passengers flew through Helsinki Airport and altogether 650,000 passengers flew through other domestic airports. Compared to December 2023, the total number of passengers was 7 per cent higher at Helsinki Airport and 14 per cent higher at other domestic airports.

Seventy-seven per cent of the air traffic passengers travelled on international flights and 23 per cent on domestic flights in December 2024. The share of passengers on international flights was 83 per cent at Helsinki Airport and 65 per cent in total at other domestic airports. Of all passengers, 87 per cent travelled on scheduled flights.

In December 2024, air freight and mail transport totalled 14,067 tonnes. In all, 98 per cent of the tonnes were transported through Helsinki Airport and 99 per cent in traffic between Finland and foreign countries. Altogether 6,287 tonnes (45 %) of the transported volume of goods were incoming and 7,780 tonnes (55 %) were outgoing.

During January to December in 2024, a total of 19.8 million passengers flew through Finnish airports, which was 7 per cent more than in the same period in 2023. From the beginning of 2024, the volume of freight and mail transport totalled 183,000 tonnes, which was 4 per cent more than in 2023.
