Cubic volume of granted building permits decreased by 3 per cent in March 2025 from one year back

According to Statistics Finland, the annual cubic volume of construction actions having been granted a building permit for newbuilding decreased by three per cent in March 2025 from one year ago. Building permits were granted for a total of 29 million cubic metres between April 2024 and March 2025. Over the period, building projects totalling 27 million cubic metres were completed, which was 26 per cent down from one year earlier.

Cubic volume covered by granted building permits was bigger than one year ago in seven regions

The annual total cubic volume of building permits granted for newbuilding was highest in Uusimaa and Pirkanmaa in March 2025. The cubic volume was bigger than one year earlier in seven regions.

The annual total of the cubic volume of completed building projects was highest in Uusimaa and North Ostrobothnia in March 2025. The cubic volume went up in six regions.

In the whole country, the annual total of new dwellings completed at building sites was 20,046 in March 2025, which was 45 per cent lower than one year earlier. Among the regions, most dwellings were completed in Uusimaa, 9,568. Compared to the previous year, the number of completed new dwellings increased only in the region of Kymenlaakso.
