Road traffic accidents claimed 18 lives in July 2026

According to Statistics Finland's preliminary data, 242 accidents involving personal injury happened in road traffic in July 2026. In them, 18 persons were killed and 316 persons injured. The number of fatalities was three lower and the number of persons injured 51 lower than in July 2025. The data were compared with the previous year's preliminary data.

Road traffic accidents in January to July

According to preliminary data, there were a total of 1,308 road traffic accidents involving personal injury in the January to July period of 2026. In them, 95 persons were killed and 1,657 persons injured. The number of deaths was three lower and the number of persons injured 10 lower than in the corresponding period of 2025. Of the persons who were killed, 58 travelled by passenger car, three by van, two by moped and nine by motorcycle. 13 pedestrians and one riders of a light electric vehicles was/were killed. one cyclist/s on a traditional bicycle and two cyclist/s on an electric bicycle was/were killed. In addition, six other road users were killed.
