Railway statistics 2025, 4th quarter

Number of trips made by rail increased by 5  per cent in the last quarter of 2025

According to Statistics Finland, 22.5 million trips were made in railway passenger transport in in the last quarter of 2025, which is 5 per cent more than in the corresponding quarter of the previous year. A total of 7.0 million tonnes of goods were transported in freight transport, which is 1 per cent less than in the corresponding quarter last year.

  • In the fourth quarter 2025, a total of 22.5 million journeys were made in passenger transport, covering 1.4 billion passenger-kilometres.
  • The number of passenger-kilometres on rail remained unchanged compared to the corresponding quarter of the previous year.
  • In freight transport, a total of 7.0 million tonnes of goods were transported, which corresponded to 2.0 billion tonne-kilometres.
  • The number of tonne-kilometres in rail freight transport decreased by 5 per cent compared to the same quarter of the previous year.
