According to Statistics Finland, altogether 20.6 million passengers flew through Finnish airports in 2025. The total number of passengers grew by four per cent from 2024. The number of passengers on domestic flights decreased by one per cent and on international flights increased by six per cent. The number of passengers was 21 per cent lower than before the coronavirus pandemic in 2019.

Growth in the number of air traffic passengers continued in 2025

Altogether 20.6 million passengers flew through Finnish airports in 2025. In all, 17.1 million passengers flew through Helsinki Airport and around 3.5 million passengers through other domestic airports. Ninety-five per cent of all passengers were on scheduled flights and five per cent on chartered flights.

Altogether 82 per cent of air traffic passengers, or around 17 million, travelled on international flights in 2025. Eighteen per cent, or around 3.7 million passengers, travelled on domestic flights. The share of passengers on international flights was 89 per cent at Helsinki Airport and 47 per cent in total at other domestic airports.

The number of air traffic passengers increased by four per cent from 2024. The number of passengers at Helsinki Airport was four per cent higher and the combined number of passengers at other domestic airports six per cent higher than in 2024. Compared to 2019, the number of passengers at Helsinki Airport was 22 per cent lower and at other domestic airports combined 17 per cent lower in 2025. The year 2019 is used in the statistics as the comparison year to describe the number of air passengers before the pandemic.

The volume of freight and mail transport by air grew by one per cent compared to 2024. Air freight and mail transport totalled 185,378 tonnes in 2025. In all, 99 per cent of air freight was transported through Helsinki Airport and 99.5 per cent in traffic between Finland and foreign countries. Altogether 103,453 tonnes (56%) of the transported freight were outgoing and 81,925 tonnes (44%) were incoming.
