Consumption of goods and services in the field of culture grew in euros in 2024 and the share of the whole economy grew slightly

According to Statistics Finland, value added and employment in the field of culture decreased slightly in 2024. However, the share of culture in the value added of the whole national economy remained almost unchanged. At the same time, households' expenditure used on culture grew measured in euros, as a result of which the share of cultural expenditure of all consumption expenditure grew slightly.

Key selections

  • The current priced value added of cultural industries decreased, while the current priced value added of the whole economy grew in 2024, whereby the share of culture in the value added of the whole economy decreased and was now 3.1 per cent.
  • The number of employed persons decreased both in cultural fields and in the whole economy, and the share of culture among employed persons remained on level with the previous year, at 2.9 per cent in 2024.
  • Consumption expenditure used on culture grew in relative terms more than consumption expenditure in total in 2024, so the share of cultural consumption grew slightly.
  • The national accounts have started using the COICOP2018 classification. As a result of the new classification, private consumption expenditure used on culture decreased slightly, in general by 0.1 percentage points per year.
