Share of highly educated persons aged 25 to 34 grew in 2025

According to Statistics Finland, 3,654,800 persons had completed a post-comprehensive level qualification in 2025. A total of 371,600 persons had completed a basic level qualification and 1,672,200 persons had completed a tertiary level qualification.

The educational level of persons aged 25 to 34 with tertiary level qualifications rose in 2025.
Data on education completed abroad are not comprehensively included in Statistics Finland's Register of Completed Education and Degrees, so reliable register-based data are not available on the level of education of persons with foreign background born abroad.
The share of persons aged 20 with only basic level education decreased by 1.9 percentage points compared to the previous year and by 2.5 percentage points compared to 2023.
The Act on Compulsory Education (1241/2020), according to which compulsory education ends when a young person turns 18 or completes an upper secondary level qualification, concerned for the first time persons born in 2005.
The most popular field of education was technology, where 84 per cent of those with qualifications were men and 16 per cent women.
