Domestic trips to free-time residences and visits to friends decreased clearly in 2025

According to Statistics Finland, around 19.9 million domestic leisure trips with overnight stay were made in 2025, which is nearly one fifth fewer than in 2024. The number of leisure trips abroad with overnight stay remained almost on level with the previous year and was around 6.1 million in 2025.

Key selections

  • In 2025, the total number of trips with overnight stay was 29.1 million, including leisure and business trips in Finland and abroad.
  • The decrease in the number of domestic leisure trips was mainly due to a lower number of trips with free accommodation. Around 13.5 million of these trips were made, which is nearly one quarter fewer than one year earlier.
  • The number of domestic leisure trips with paid accommodation decreased slightly from the year before and was around 6.4 million.
  • Domestic business trips numbered 2.2 million and business trips abroad 1.0 million. The number of business trips in Finland grew slightly and that of business trips abroad decreased from the previous year.
  • Around 85 per cent of the population made at least one leisure trip with overnight stay during 2025.
